PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Four University of Pikeville men's basketball seniors and three from the women's program will play their last regular-season home games as the Bears host Cumberlands on Saturday for Senior Day.
Both teams are coming off a good trip to Life on Thursday with the women winning 73-67 and the men claiming a 99-93 win on the road over the No. 21 Running Eagles. With the win, head coach Kelly Wells' men claim the program's fourth Mid-South Conference Regular-Season title.
Senior day ceremonies will include presentations to men's players, Rze Culbreath, Darrion Leslie, Michael Chambers and Rodney Hawkins. On the women's side, it will be Jamie Castle, Rachel Lee and Aundrea Matchen.
UPIKE and Cumberlands are set to meet for the 134th time in men's series history. The Patriots have the all-time edge against the Bears at 82-51, but over the past eight seasons Pikeville has put together a 10-7 record. During that span, the Bears are 6-1 at the East Ky. Expo Center, 4-4 on the road in Williamsburg, Ky., and 0-2 when facing Cumberlands in the MSC Tournament. In the last meeting, UPIKE won 79-58 behind 17 points from Darrion Leslie.
This is the 92nd women's meeting between the Bears and Patriots with Cumberlands leading the all-time series 64-27. UPIKE is 6-3 in the last nine outings, including wins in both regular-season matchups last season. The Bears have won five straight games in the series, last losing on Dec. 4, 2014 at home.
