WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- In its first Mid-South Conference road trip of the season, the University of Pikeville women's tennis team was shut out 9-0 at Cumberlands on Sunday.

The Bears (4-4, 1-2 MSC) had five players available, leading to it trailing 2-0 before the match started with forfeits at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The rest of the matches were won by the Patriots (4-6, 2-1 MSC) in straight sets.

UPIKE jumped out to a 3-2 lead in both doubles matches that were contested, but both ended up losing six straight games.

Andrea Hurtado and Samantha Fraser lost 8-3 to Jaclyn Jewell and Tomomi Nagao at the top seed, while Madison Daniels and Cailee Marcum lost by the same score to Hannah Wampler and Haley Mahan at No. 2.

Hurtado fared the best for UPIKE in singles as she lost 6-3, 6-1 to Nagao. The Bears failed to tally more than two games in the four other matches.
