GEORGETOWN, Ky. – After sweeping Georgetown on Friday, the Tigers returned the favor to the University of Pikeville softball team, winning 2-1 and 6-1 during a doubleheader on Saturday.
With two wins each in the series, the Bears stand at 25-19 overall and 9-13 in the Mid-South Conference, while the Tigers are now 30-15 overall and 16-10 in the MSC.
Hannah Skaggs and Megan Claypoole both pitched complete games to take the losses. Skaggs allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts, followed by Claypoole giving up six runs on seven hits with eight batters struck out in the nightcap.
Lee Collier and Chandler Kelly tallied a hit each to lead the Bears in game one, while Claypoole led the at the plate in game two, going 2 for 3.
Georgetown outhit Pikeville a combined 12-6, led by Chaselyn Allgeier going 4 for 6 with three runs, three stolen bases and a double.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one on a groundout and sac fly and neither team scored again until Kelly hit a solo homer in the fourth. But the Bears failed to tally a hit in the next three frames to lose 2-1.
Once again, UPIKE managed just one run in game two when Jordan Gentry hit a sac fly in the third inning to score Emme Barker. While that run made it 2-1, Georgetown started to pull away in the bottom half, scoring three runs on three hits and an error before Corrin Robinson added an RBI double in the fourth to make it 6-1.
Neither team scored another run over the final three innings.
