PRESTONSBURG, Ky. -- UPIKE men's soccer couldn't find its rhythm on Sunday as it dropped its season opener to Montreat in a 3-0 decision.
Montreat dominated the ball in the first half, but the Bear defense stood up to the task, limiting the Cavaliers to just six shots on goal, none of which got through the hands of goalkeeper
Anibal Navarro.
The Bears struggled to get into the attacking third and couldn't muster a shot in the first half, but eventually found its way through in the second half with a couple long attacks that resulted in three shots.
Francisco Prado opened the scoring in the 53rd minute with a tap-in goal off the feed from Melle Rekvelt as the ball was quickly passed through the box. He later added on with another strike in the 74th minute to push the lead to 2-0. Oliver Nuno-Rodriguez concluded the scoring in the 81st minute.
Pikeville's best chance came in the 64th minute when
Oscar Pacheco's free kick from over 30 meters away nearly curled in before being tipped over by Cavalier keeper Jesus Ramos.
UPIKE will try to get its first win of the season against Milligan at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday against Milligan in Milligan College, Tenn.
