UPIKE Archery shines at indoor regionals, conference meet

MADISONVILLE, Ky. -- Over the weekend, UPIKE archery officially got the competition portion of its second part of the season underway at the indoor regional and conference tournaments. After the two days of competition, UPIKE walked away with plenty of hardware.

In addition to the awards of the weekend, seven archers — Andrew Blackburn, A.J. Clements, Devin Gayheart, Tori Gayheart, Elizabeth Jones, Amber Mayes and Brianna Rowe — placed in the top 8 nationally to qualify for the Indoor Nationals Tournament from Feb. 8-10 in Las Vegas.

Regionals

UPIKE competed at the regional tournament on Saturday and in possibly the best day in UPIKE archery history, every single school record fell throughout the day. Below is a list of all the new records for indoor:

In addition to the records, UPIKE left the range Saturday with five total medals, with Clements taking gold in Men's Recurve, Andrew Blackburn and Elizabeth Jones taking silver in Men's Basic Bow and Women's Recurve, and Devin Gayheart and Brianna Rowe taking bronze in Men's Recurve and Women's Basic Bow.

Conference

The momentum from Saturday continued to roll into Sunday as UPIKE took second place as a team at the Mid-South Conference Indoor Tournament, its highest finish ever. The Bears also brought home 14 total medals from the meet, including seven golds.

The second place finish as a team leapfrogged the Bears from fourth to third over Lindsey Wilson, and are now just one point back of Union for second place.
