COLUMBIA, Ky. – Pikeville volleyball was unable to snap its losing skid on Thursday when faced with possibly the toughest test of the Mid-South Conference season.
No. 13 Lindsey Wilson defended its home court and defeated Pikeville, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-11).
In the first set, UPIKE appeared to be up to the task and showed it would not go lightly, jumping out to a 9-6 lead. Set one was the Bears' best set offensively with 11 total kills to LWC's 12.
Noelani Simpson led the Bears on the night with 11 kills to reach 300 on the season and is inching closer to 1,000 in her career at 946.
Lindsey Wilson came back towards the middle of the set though with a 7-1 run to take a five-point lead. Pikeville tried to come back but the LWC momentum was too strong to overcome.
The second set started in a similar fashion with the Bears hanging right with the Blue Raiders. But Lindsey Wilson's offense kicked into high gear after UPIKE got the lead to 13-11 with 11 straight points.
Set three was especially tough for the Bears with eight errors on offense to LWC having just two. That led to the night's most lopsided set and the Blue Raiders earning the sweep.
