COLUMBIA, Ky. – UPIKE men's soccer nearly provided the biggest upset of the NAIA's season on Saturday against No. 7 Lindsey Wilson, but ultimately fell in a 1-0 defeat.
Lindsey Wilson jumped on UPIKE in the opening minutes and scored the matches' only goal in the 15th minute.
From that point on, the match was fairly even, especially in the second half. UPIKE was able to keep pace with the Blue Raiders thanks to another incredible game in goal from Anibal Navarro.
Navarro had a total of 17 saves in the contest, the second time this season he has accomplished such a feat. He now stands in sixth place in the NAIA in total saves with 78 this season.
UPIKE had seven total shots in the match, including two prime opportunities in the final 30 minutes. Lindsey Wilson's keeper made a great save on a shot from Eric Bernabeu in the 62nd minute to keep the score level.
The Bears drew a penalty in the 80th minute but the corresponding penalty kick bounced off the crossbar. UPIKE would continue to fire shots, but nothing snuck into the net to tie the match.
