PIKEVILLE, Ky. – UPIKE volleyball couldn't snap out of its recent losing skid on Thursday with a loss at home to Georgetown, 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-17).
UPIKE was competitive and held the Tigers close in each set until a late run caused some separation for GC.
The first set was probably the most dominant for Georgetown as the Tigers got out to an 11-6 lead. However, a 4-1 run got the Bears within two points thanks to a pair of kills by Noelani Simpson, who led the team with 11.
The lead hovered around two or three points until GC closed on with five unanswered points.
Set two appeared to be UPIKE's for the taking as the Bears dominated early to build a 7-4 lead. Georgetown responded with a 11-2 run to squash those hopes still relatively early though with multiple Bears errors.
Pikeville turned up the offense in the third set with its highest hit percentage in the match, but Georgetown did the same with a .484 attack percentage in the set.
The Tigers had five players with six or more kills in the match, led by McKala Bozman's nine.
