Volleyball loses to Shawnee State in road matchup

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Bears' recent struggles in conference play continued on Wednesday when they were defeated by Shawnee State in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-16).

Pikeville wasn't able to get into a groove offensively throughout the night, limiting the chances they had to build any momentum.

The Bears had 21 errors to pair with their 25 kills, while Shawnee State had 19 errors on 34 kills. A vast majority of those errors came in the first set, the one UPIKE was the most competitive in.

Pikeville was within one point at 21-20 before Shawnee scored four of the next five points to close out the set. Shawnee was led offensively by Macie Rhoads and Maria Kolinoff who had 10 and nine kills, respectively.

Noelani Simpson led the Bears with a match-high 11 kills and Megan Frazier added seven. Simpson (14), Cook (12), and Reels (12) each had double-figure digs.
