Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Sean Carley

Men’s soccer loses overtime heartbreaker to Shawnee State

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – A brace from Ethan Duncan was almost what Pikeville needed to secure its second conference win, but Shawnee State came back to defeat UPIKE in overtime, 3-2.

Both teams provided a strong defensive effort with only 12 shots on goal combined between the two teams.

Three of Shawnee State's eight shots on goal came in the first 25 minutes, but Anibal Navarro was able to stop all three attempts. From there the Bears defense settled in and started holding Shawnee State away from the attacking area.

It wasn't until the 43rd minute that Pikeville finally broke through on Duncan's first goal of the night to break the scoreless tie and give the Bears a halftime lead.

That lead doubled in the 58th minute on Duncan's second goal and gave the Bears a 2-0 lead.

Shawnee State wasn't on the board until there were 20 minutes to go and Joao Toledo finally beat Navarro. SSU tied it up fifteen minutes later which eventually sent the game into overtime.

The overtime period was a back and forth possession struggle for the first five minutes until Toledo hit the golden goal to seal the match for Shawnee State.
