Dominant defensive effort leads UPIKE women’s basketball past Milligan

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – UPIKE women's basketball received a great defensive effort on Friday, leading to a big win against Milligan, 86-65.

Pikeville held the Buffaloes to 33.9 percent shooting overall and 25.5 percent through the first three quarters to build its big league.

UPIKE started the game on an 8-1 run and never looked back from there and had a 12-point lead before the first quarter was over.

Senior forward Theodora Odia had a massive impact in the first half with 12 points and nine rebounds. She ended up securing her first double-double of the season at 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Odia was one of four players to score in double figures. Yurleis Estrada, Hailey Free, and Kayla Mullins each had 12 points.

UPIKE's offense was built around its interior play all throughout the game. Although Milligan slightly outrebounded Pikeville 40-39, the Bears outscored the Buffaloes 56-24 in the paint.

Outside of Odia's 10 rebounds, Mia Greatrex led the Bears with seven rebounds and added nine points.
