PULASKI, Tenn. – UPIKE's perfect start to the season came to a tough end on Friday night, losing to Martin Methodist, 73-47.
Pikeville fell behind early due in part to a rough shooting night from the floor. The Bears only shot 30 percent from the floor overall and 20 percent in the first half.
Despite the unlucky shooting, UPIKE's defense was strong enough to keep the Bears around early, trailing 14-9 after the first quarter.
Martin Methodist caught fire in the second quarter though, shooting 60 percent from the floor. The RedHawks received a majority of its offensive output from Faith Sherrow and Erin Freeman who scored a combined 43 points in the contest.
Pikeville came out of halftime strong and won the third quarter, 16-14. It was the Bears best shooting quarter of the night, hitting 7 of 17 shots.
Martin Methodist didn't allow the Bears to form a real comeback attempt by pulling away for good in the fourth quarter.
