PIKEVILLE, Ky. – UPIKE men's basketball dominated on both ends Monday night as the Bears blew out Akron Wayne 118-50 to close out their 2019 part of the schedule.
Every player to enter the game for the Bears ended up scoring, led by freshman JJ Ramey's 19 points off the bench. Ramey grabbed seven rebounds and posted multiple thunderous dunks in the second half.
With the win, UPIKE moves to 14-0 overall ahead of Saturday's matchup against No. 1 Georgetown.
Pikeville shot 69 percent in the contest, while shooting 84.4 percent inside the arc. The Bears went inside early and often to build a huge lead. Pikeville scored a season-high 92 points in the paint against the Warriors.
UPIKE also caused havoc on defense, forcing a season-high tying 27 turnovers, which resulted in 38 Bears points. The Warriors shot just 36 percent in the game, with a good chunk of those baskets coming in garbage time.
Korbin Spencer led all players with five steals, while Dez Brown added four and Jazz Parker had three.
Overall six Bears scored in double figures, including Ramey; Parker and Luke Layhew who each had 14; and Spencer, Deandre Barton, and Da'Rell Domineck with 12 each.
Fode Camara also provided a spark, primarily on defense with four blocks and eight rebounds, while adding six.
Coach Kelly Wells got to play his reserves for extended minutes as well with Chiekh Ndiaye and Johnny Miller each filling a few stat columns at the end of the game.
