Delacruz eclipses 1,000 points as UPIKE men get revenge win over Lindsey Wilson

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Jayvian Delacruz became the 28th member of UPIKE's 1,000 point club on Thursday as the Bears avenged an earlier Mid-South loss to Lindsey Wilson with a 84-71 win.

The win, Pikeville's 20th this season, allowed the Bears to keep pace at second place in the MSC, one game behind leader Georgetown.

UPIKE started on a torrent pace by making 10 of its first 14 shots to open up a 11-point lead in before the first 10 minutes ended.

Delacruz had 12 of his game-high 25 points in the first eight minutes, including two 3-pointers. The latter of those pushed him to exactly 1,000 points on the season. Delacruz is the first UPIKE player to reach 1,000 points since K.K. Simmons back in 2016.

Despite UPIKE's strong start offensively, Lindsey Wilson started almost equally hot from the floor. The Blue Raiders went on a 13-2 run over six minutes after UPIKE's 11-point lead to take the lead. LWC went into halftime with a three-point advantage.

UPIKE opened the floodgates after halftime though with a 13-2 run to retake the lead. The Bears shot lights out from beyond-the-arc overall at 58 percent (14-24), but especially to start the second half. Delacruz, Xaviar Gaona, Chase Parsley, and Jazz Parker all hit 3-pointers in the first six minutes of the second half to ignite the Bears.

Parker provided a huge spark off the bench, at one point going on a 11-2 run by himself en route to scoring 13 points with three assists and two steals. Gaona had another vintage game by his standards, providing steadily throughout the night to earn his first double-double as a Bear with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson repeatedly made little jabs at the lead through the end of the game, but only once did the Blue Raiders draw within single digits for the duration of the game.
