PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The Bears offense was firing on all cylinders Wednesday as Pikeville was able to run-rule Alice Lloyd, 16-6 in seven innings.
With the win, Coach Jim Pitt earned his 100th win in four seasons with the Bears.
UPIKE's bats were so locked in from the start that Pikeville scored two runs before recording an out. The first run came in on an RBI triple from Tyler Menrath. He then scored on a single from Luke Lubiniecki.
Dillon O'Grady added an RBI on a groundout, then Rodny Rodriguez's RBI single got the lead to 4-0 before Pastor Sanchez hit a rope over the left field wall, his first of the year, to make it 7-0 in the first inning.
The Eagles wouldn't go down lightly in the early going though, scoring three runs in the second. But UPIKE responded to get two of those runs back in the bottom of the second. Menrath manufactured the first run almost entirely himself with a single, two stolen bases, and scoring on a wild pitch. The second run was much more traditional with Lubiniecki scoring on an RBI double from Anthony Houk.
Alice Lloyd hung up its second straight crooked number with two more runs in the third on five hits, but then UPIKE scored four in the bottom of the inning.
Jacob Alvarado and Menrath both reached base and were brought home on a double by Lubiniecki. Jay Vincent then added on to the damage with a two-run home run, his first of two on the day and the Bears had a 13-5 lead.
After Alice Lloyd scored one run in the fourth, Vincent hit his second-straight home run in the fifth to get UPIKE to a 15-6 lead, needing just one more to get in run-rule range.
Peyton Dove took the mound in the fourth and shut down the Alice Lloyd offense, holding the Eagles to two hits in four innings, while striking out three.
Needing just one run in the seventh, the Bears got three singles from Sanchez, Menrath, and Lubiniecki to walk-off for the run-rule.
