UPIKE baseball season ends with loss to Georgetown in MSC Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- UPIKE baseball's season came to a tough close on Friday after losing 7-1 to Georgetown in the elimination bracket.

The loss marks the ends to the UPIKE careers of 10 Bears, who leave as one of the most accomplished senior classes in program history.

This group of seniors became the first senior class to achieve 100 wins across their four years in Pikeville since the late 1990s.

Dillon O'Grady provided the spark for the lone UPIKE run with his NAIA leading ninth triple of the season in the second inning. He then came in to score on an RBI groundout by Anthony Houk.

Georgetown then scored seven unanswered, six of which came from the sixth inning on.

The Tigers tied the game in the third with a double and single back-to-back. GC's real rally started in the sixth though, when the Tigers finally got to starter Brady Cappe for a two-run rally, all with two outs.

Randall Schab reached on a walk, then advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single from Shota Asuda. After Asuda
advanced on the throw home, he scored on another single from Zack Stack.

Those two runs would be all Georgetown needed with Kyle Fieger's strong outing for the Tigers. He threw a complete game, surrendering just five hits in the process, only two after the fourth inning.

Georgetown then added three runs in the seventh. Two of which came on a home run from Val Stammler, then added another on a RBI double.

UPIKE finishes the season 24-27 overall with a 7-15 record in Mid-South Conference play.

This story will be updated later tonight.
