PIKEVILLE, KY. – UPIKE volleyball gave fans a thriller to remember in Tuesday's home opener, beating Kentucky Christian in five sets, 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 25-18, 26-28, 15-9).
UPIKE used a three-speared attack all night between senior outside hitter Noelani Simpson, sophomore right side hitter Megan Frazier, and freshman Trinity Warfield. The three combined for 47 kills with 25, 11, and 11 respectively.
The Bears stumbled early and ended up dropping the first set, but then responded with two straight commanding 25-18 set wins.
UPIKE had the Knights down to match point in the fourth set, but the two teams ended up going to extra points before KCU eventually won 28-26.
Pikeville then dominated in the fifth set thanks to a .467 attack percentage, while holding KCU to .133.

UPIKE heads back on the road this weekend for a Saturday tri-match against Ohio Christian and Cincinnati Christian in Circleville, Ohio. The Bears will face CCU at 1 p.m., then OCU at 3:00 p.m.
