SALEM, W. Va. – UPIKE soccer faced arguably its strongest test so far this season on Wednesday at NCAA D-II Salem University and lost to the Tigers 4-0.
Salem controlled possession throughout the game and kept Bears keeper Anibal Navarro busy, outshooting Pikeville 18-4.
The Tigers scored their first goal in the 20th minute, but were held in check for the rest of the first half. They added onto that lead twice within the first 20 minutes of the second half to build up a 3-0 lead
Eric Bernabeu had all four of UPIKE's shots in the match, including a prime scoring opportunity in the 71st minute with back-to-back shots on goal but Salem's keeper kept the ball out of the net.
Salem added another insurance goal in the final minutes.
This will be updated once a full box score is made available.
