BLUEFIELD, VA. – There was not much offense to be had on Monday evening in Bluefield, but Pikeville found enough to break through and down the Rams 1-0 on the road.
The lone goal in the match was scored by senior Oscar Pacheco and was one of only six total shots on goal by both teams in the entire match.
UPIKE had four of those shots, holding Bluefield to just two scoring chances. The shutout gives Anibal Navarro his first shutout of the year.
The first half was relatively unexciting, with quite a few shots but the strong defense was able to force everything to go awry. The first shot on goal didn't come until a half hour into the game by Ethan Duncan.
Billy Quiteno and Evan Vanlierop provided the other two shots on goal for the Bears.
After Pacheco's goal in the 65th minute, UPIKE's defenders were able to keep Bluefield without a shot on goal for the remainder of the game, and only two shots overall.
