PIPPA PASSES, Ky. – UPIKE volleyball was able to shake off the demons of its last match on Wednesday with a three-set sweep of Alice Lloyd, (25-20, 25-17, 25-20).
The Bears have now won each of their last 15 matches against the Eagles, all in straight sets.
It took UPIKE a bit to get acclimated to the match, but once they did the Bears made quick work of the Eagles. Pikeville hit .416 in the match, led by Noelani Simpson's 25 kills. Megan Frazier had eight and Yeryvel Catala had six to round out most of the Bears' offense.
Leigh Johnson had 24 assists in just two sets of work. Pikeville went on a 11-3 run to close out the second set and take a 2-0 lead.
UPIKE dominated in the service game with seven total aces to Alice Lloyd's three. Sarah Clark led the team with three to boost her team-high total to 21 on the season.
Coach Obed Quiles used the third set to give his younger players some playing time and they had a strong showing in their limited time.
Haylee Meade had 17 assists in her time off the bench in addition to a kill, Hannah Dempsey got three digs, Samantha Adams got a kill and a dig, and Alexis Workman had some strong serves to throw the Eagles offense off.

The Bears return to conference action this weekend with back-to-back matches at home against Life and Cumberlands on Friday and Saturday.
