PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Volleyball ended a busy week on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Cumberlands (Ky.), 25-20, 25-19, 25-12.
Each of the first two sets were close and competitive after early struggles by the Bears.
Cumberlands came out of the gate with a 6-0 run, but the Bears answered with a 10-2 run to take a lead that would hold for most of the set. With the set tied 17-17, the Patriots went on a late rally to snatch the set back.
The Bears offense was fairly well distributed compared to normal with five players getting three or more kills. Noelani Simpson led with six, Megan Frazier had five, and Trinity Warfield and Samantha Adams each had four.
Set two was a very similar story to the first as UC started on a 12-2 run, but the Bears once again went on a 10-2 run to get within two. Also like the first set, Pikeville tied it up at 17-17 before the Patriots took over again.
However, the Patriots did not mess around in the third. A 14-2 run put the Bears away early in the match's most lopsided set.
