EMERSON, Ga. – Two rough innings caused UPIKE baseball's series finale to go awry on Saturday as the Bears lost to Point, 7-3.
For the second game in the series, UPIKE jumped on the board first on an RBI single from Anthony Houk. The Bears had a chance prior to Houk's knock to score another but the Skyhawks tagged Tyler Menrath out at the plate.
Point erased that deficit and took the lead in the bottom of the frame after tagging UPIKE's starter Chase McKinney for three runs in the inning, but only two were earned.
Errors was another issue for the Bears on Saturday as they committed four in the game. Pikeville nearly equaled Point's hit total in the contest (9 to 8), but the Skyhawks were able to string theirs together.
Pikeville got a run back in the third on an RBI single from Kase Mattingly, his first of the season.
That 3-2 scoreline stuck until a tough fourth inning where Point plated four runs on just two hits as the Skyhawks drew four walks in the inning and also benefitted from an error.
UPIKE had a big chance to strike in the sixth inning as they loaded the bases with a pair of hits and an error but came up empty. The Bears left nine runners on base in the game.
Pastor Sanchez plated the last run of the game on a bases loaded walk but a late rally wouldn't materialize.
