Men’s basketball gets bounce back win against (RV) Lindsey Wilson

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – UPIKE men's basketball sent a resounding message on Thursday night by thrashing Lindsey Wilson, 95-64.

UPIKE's 95 points are the most scored against a Mid-South Conference opponent in a winning effort in nearly two years.

Five players scored in double figures in the offensive explosion, led by Jordan Perry's 24. Perry hit 9-of-18 shots from the floor including a pair of 3-pointers.

Jazz Parker had almost an equally hot hand with 18 points, while also adding six assists and six rebounds. Parker got the Bears started early by scoring seven of Pikeville's first 11 points.

Lindsey Wilson kept close early, before the Bears exploded on a 19-0 run in just five minutes' time. UPIKE shot 7-for-9 in that run, with both misses being followed by Luke Layhew offensive rebounds.

Layhew nearly got another double-double in the contest with 17 points and eight rebounds. However, he was not the closest Bear to a double-double as DeAndre Barton was just one assist shy with 15 points and nine assists.

After that run, LWC did not get within 15 points of the Bears for the rest of the game.

As impressive as Pikeville was offensively, the defensive effort was just as impressive. After the Blue Raiders shot 59 percent overall and 59 percent from three, UPIKE held them to 36 percent overall and just 28 percent from distance.

Pikeville also dominated on the glass as well, outrebounding the Blue Raiders 44-24. UPIKE surrendered just one offensive rebound in the whole game.

UPIKE returned the favor from the behind-the-arc as well, hitting 11 3-pointers, the fourth most this season. Barton, Parker, Perry and Korbin Spencer each hit multiple 3-pointers in the game. Spencer was the last UPIKE in double figures, scoring 12 off the bench.
