PIKEVILLE, Ky. – UPIKE baseball had one of the wildest walk-off wins ever on Monday to lead to a split of a four-game series opening doubleheader against Fisher College.
Game 1 – UPIKE wins 8-7
UPIKE entered the bottom of the seventh down two runs after giving up six unanswered to Fisher, which gave them a 7-5 lead.
However, a single from DeMarco Miller, a fielders choice error, and a hit batter loaded the bases an put the winning run on first with nobody out.
Dillon O'Grady brought the first run in on a sacrifice fly which also advanced the two other runners.
Then, Fisher self-destructed as two wild pitches to the next batter allowed the other two runners to score and give UPIKE the win.
The comeback preserved what appeared to be a smooth, easy win early as the Bears jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning.
Once again, Pikeville took advantage of errors in a three-run third inning, although it was capped off by an O'Grady triple.
Game 2 – Fisher wins 11-6
Fisher got revenge in a big way in the second game, scoring in nearly every inning in an 11-6 win.
Almost all of UPIKE's offense in the game came in a four-run fifth inning, but it only came off one hit.
Falcons pitchers hit four batters in the inning, one of which brought in a run, as well as a walk that brought in another. The two other runs in the inning came on sacrifice flies, one from Kase Mattingly and the other from Dillon O'Grady.
The Bears just couldn't find success from the pitching staff as the Falcons tallied 11 hits and also drew six walks in the win.
