Pikeville, KY – Despite landing two solid goals late in the second half, UPIKE women's soccer fell at home on Saturday to Thomas More by a final score of 4-2.
The loss puts the Bears at 3-6 on the season while the Saints improve to 8-2.
Thomas More placed three shots in the first 10 minutes, one being blocked by UPIKE while the others went wide. The Bear's defense held solid until the 16
' mark when Thomas More's Ainsley Clark connected for an unassisted goal.
Five minutes later, the Saints extended their lead with a goal in the 20
th minute to go up 2-0. The Bears wouldn't manage a shot in the first period but held defensively, with
Jada Rice recording her first save in the 43
rd minute of action. The half came to a close with Thomas More up a pair of goals.
Right off the bat, Rice saved a shot attempted by the Saints and set up what would be the Bear's first corner kick of the contest in the 49
th minute. Thomas More legged two more goals in the 47
th and 59
th minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead.
The Bear's came firing back late in the half as
Kylie Maynard recorded her third goal of the season on a penalty kick. After an
Elizabeth Lukens save and two errant shots from the Saints, the bears advanced the ball into TMU territory. Gollilhue sent a shot wide right before the Bears setup for a corner from Lillie Kluenser. A minute later,
Sophie Kluesner played a solid ball to sister
Lillie Kluesner who found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
The Bears shot once more but weren't able to score again, falling 4-2.
UPIKE women's soccer returns to Bob Amos Park on Friday, October 8
th to take on the Cumberland Phoenix. The matchup is slated for 12PM.
