Portsmouth, OH – The University of Pikeville women's volleyball team lost to Shawnee State on the road Wednesday evening, 3-0. The Bears struggled throughout, as they hit below .100 in the match.
Yeryvel Catala tied a career-high with 13 kills on the night, while
Hunter Clewis added seven.
Mikela Cook and Clewis both had 10 digs in the match while
Leigh Johnson had 16 assists. This is the seventh straight match where Clewis recorded double-digit digs while Cook has had three-straight with 10 digs.
The Bears fall to 4-22 overall and 2-11 in the Mid-South Conference. They will get a week off before hosting Thomas More University at home on October 27th.
Set By Set
In set one, UPIKE fell behind 23-12, before going on a small 4-1 run. They would ultimately drop the set 25-16. The second set saw the Bears fall behind 17-7. They put some pressure on Shawnee State with an 8-5 flurry to make it 22-15, but it wouldn't be enough as they fell 25-15.
The final set saw the Bears trailing 21-9. As they have done throughout the season, they showed moxie and grinded out a 9-3 run that made the score 24-18. This run was aided by a pair of Catala kills before UPIKE dropped the final point and lost the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.

As mentioned, UPIKE will return to action next Wednesday, October 27th when they host the Thomas More Saints in the UPIKE Gym beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Bears dropped their first match to Thomas More on September 29th, 3-0.
