Pikeville, KY – Men's soccer took the field against (RV) Cumberland on Friday afternoon, falling 3-0 to an athletic Phoenix team.
Cumberland sent a barrage of shots throughout the contest totaling 29, 15 of which went on goal. The Bears were held to three shots, two of which came in the second half.
Yuri Rocha was responsible for a pair of the Bear's shots, the other coming from
Alejandro Swanton.
Jalen Smith finished with 12 saves, his second-best career outing. The game kept Smith busy in goal as he warded off several quick shots from the Phoenix, who were able to control possession for a large portion of the contest.
The first period was one to be proud of for the Bears defensive unit who held the Phoenix scoreless, pushing back on every attack. Rocha sent the Bear's first shot 27:32 into the game, making an impressive advance before missing just wide.
The second half started out with a Phoenix goal in the first minute by Tyler Watson. Cumberland kept pushing sending five consecutive shots in the next 12 minutes, two of which were saved by Smith. CU got their second goal on a quick push from Cathal Coyne in the 23
rd minute to go up 2-0. Their final goal came on a penalty kick with just under 13 minutes remaining.

th as they take on UT-Southern at Bob Amos Park starting at 3PM.
