Clarksville, TN – UPIKE women's basketball matched up with Austin Peay State University in exhibition action Friday evening, falling 78-49. Several highlights came from the loss for UPIKE though, including a team-leading 12-point performance for
Mary Englert.
Englert has continued to grow into her role as an all-around leader for the Bears and shined again against the Governors, leading the offense and shooting a perfect clip from the charity stripe.
Bailey Frazier, who scored in double digits for the second straight game, shot a solid 4-9 from the floor, including one from deep to finish with 11.
In the first quarter, it was
Georgia Sideri who took the lead for the Bears offense, scoring five in the period. Sideri followed Stamper's game-opening layup with a three-pointer as the Bears were off to a 5-0 start. Frazier and Englert continued the run and the Bears were up by as much as six before Austin Peay came storming back.
The Bears stayed within reach for much of the first half, trailing by 14 heading into the locker room. The third quarter saw the Bears match the Governors almost point for point but were unable to make up for lost ground.
Austin Peay outscored the Bears 20-8 in the fourth quarter, not allowing the Bears a single shot from the field. APSU held on to win 78-49 in the exhibition.
UPIKE women's basketball resumes regular-season action on Monday, November 15th against Midway. Tip-off from Midway, KY between the Bears and Eagles is slated for 5 PM.
