Morton Claims Defensive Freshman of the Year; Dublin Earns Second Consecutive All-MSC Distinction

Bowling Green, KY – Two from UPIKE football were honored Thursday afternoon by the Mid-South Conference in the announcement of the 2021 All-MSC Team. Linebacker Jonathan Morton claimed the Defensive Freshman of the Year Distinction while senior defensive back Christopher Dublin was named Second-Team All-MSC.

Morton led the Bears defensively in what was an incredible fall for the young Tennessee native, totaling 48 solo tackles and 32 assists to finish with 80 take downs on the season. The Elizabethton HS product launched the season with a nine tackle performance that included a sack against Bluefield, setting the tone for what was to come throughout the season.

Morton would finish the season with four double-digit tackle efforts, including a season high 12 in a win against Cumberland. Following UPIKE's shutout of Webber in week two, Morton was named MSC and NAIA Defensive Player of the week in an outing that featured a 90-yard touchdown return.

The Bears were led in the secondary by Dublin who claims his second consecutive all-MSC award. Dublin totaled 44 tackles on the season, a sack, and 3.5 tackles for loss. The Georgia native tallied four pass break-ups and finished with an interception.

Dublin also served as the primary kick returner for the Bears, returning 21 kickoffs for 577 total yards including a long of 94. Dublin also brought back five punts, averaging 28.20 yards per return with a long of 90 yards and a touchdown.
