Pikeville, KY – Women's basketball traveled to Eastern Kentucky University Saturday afternoon for an exhibition matchup with the Colonels. The Bears almost came away with the victory, outscoring EKU in two of four periods but would fall by a final score of 56-49.
Sierra Feltner led the Bears offensively, scoring 12 points on an impressive 62.5 % clip from the field. The senior also dropped in a pair of threes and snagged five rebounds in the contest.
Morgan Stamper and
Bailey Frazier added nine a piece in the scoring column, with Stamper recording nine rebounds.
As a team the Bears shot 33% from the floor, hitting just 6-18 from deep. UPIKE claimed the rebounding battle over EKU 42-38.
The Bears came out firing, kicking off the first quarter with a three via Frazier which was followed up by back-to-back layups from Stamper to go up 7-0. UPIKE held the lead throughout the remainder of the period, heading into quarter two up 12-5.
To open the second, the Bears kept the Colonels at arms length, shifting between seven and five point leads. A 4-0 run by EKU with under 5:00 to go in the period made it a three point ball game but Frazier once again answered with a three pointer to stretch the Bears lead once more.
UPIKE once again outscored EKU in the third quarter by a 12-10 count, thanks in part to a big quarter from Feltner. The Bears held their final lead of the ballgame with 5:23 to go in the final period before a monster 14-6 run throughout the final minutes pushed the Colonels to victory.
