Women's Basketball Celebrates Seniors Before Battle With Lindsey Wilson

Pikeville, KY – UPIKE women's basketball took on 13th ranked Lindsey Wilson on Saturday, celebrating the program's three senior members prior to the contest. It was an exciting battle in the UPIKE Gym and Lindsey Wilson took the upper-hand, defeating the Bears 85-79.

The trio of Taylor Berger, Zaria Hollier and Brianna Burbridge took center stage on Saturday afternoon before tip-off, joined by their family in earning recognition for their accomplishments both on and off the court. Berger, who is a Biology major at UPIKE, has been with the program for four seasons and has played in 47 games. Berger boasts an impressive resume off the court as a member of Tri-Beta Honors Society, an All-MSC Academic Award recipient, and has appeared on the university's dean's list.
The Bevinsville, KY native departs from the program after this season, in pursuit of a career in physical therapy.

Another four-year member of Coach William's squad, Zaria Hollier made her way to center court next. Hollier joined UPIKE after graduating from Acadiana High School and has racked up 117 points and 140 rebounds in her tenure. Zaria is talented in the field of computer science and plans on pursuing a career in technology.

The Bears' final senior needs no introduction as her game speaks for itself week after week. BriAnna Burbridge is a seasoned five-year veteran in the Bears program and has made her mark on the record books and university as a whole. Currently averaging a double-double in her final season, Burbridge has totaled over 1,200 points in 115 games as a Bear. The Kentucky native has no shortage of accolades, picking up All-MSC selections, NAIA All-American nods, and even won Female Athlete of the Year at UPIKE a year ago. Burbridge is a generational talent that has helped UPIKE women's basketball in its emergence as a contender in recent years. BriAnna is a commited student and serves in several groups and organizations, including the Black Student Union and Chi Omicron Mu. BriAnna's post-graduation plans are to pursue the field of clinical psychology.

The battle between the Blue Raiders and Bears stole the show following senior night as a fast-paced struggle for leverage began almost immediately.

Fittingly, Burbridge stood atop the final box score with 21 points and 19 rebounds – recroding her 13th double-double of the season. Sierra Feltner was explosive as well, matching her teammates 21 point total on 8-15 shooting. Feltners impact came largely from beyond-the-arc where she dropped nine points on 3-7.

The Bears were slightly outrebounded by the Blue Raiders 40-37 and matched their scoring totals in both the second and fourth quarters. UPIKE connected on 43.5% from the field and 42.1% from deep in the loss.

UPIKE women's basketball returns to UPIKE Gym on Monday, February 15th against Thomas More. Tip-off between the Bears and Saints is slated for 5:30 PM.
