Bowling Green, KY – UPIKE men's and women's basketball placed a combined 25 athletes on the MSC All-Academic list, announced by conference officials Thursday morning. The Bears led the conference on both lists, with 14 from women's basketball and 11 from the men's squad.
Women's basketball's 14 all-academic honorees led the conference, ahead of Lindsey Wilson who had 10 student-athletes claim the award. In total, 85 student-athletes in the conference made the list. Criteria for the award includes a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 and at least sophomore academic standing.
Sophomores
Bailey Birchfield,
Bailey Frazier,
Julia Parker, and
Morgan Stamper all made the list in their first year of eligibility.
Fatma Aouinet,
Mary Englert,
Sierra Feltner,
Hailey Free,
Alexis Reed,
Jillian Duncan,
Georgia Sideri, and
Serenity Turnbull represented the junior class earning the award for the Bears. Seniors BriAnna Burbridge and
Jillian Duncan rounded out the list.
Men's basketball was also at the forefront of the conference in volume of academic honorees with 11 from the squad claiming the honor. A total of 58 student-athletes from conference schools made the list, with Cumberlands finishing behind the Bears with nine on the list.
Representing the sophomore class for UPIKE was Jason Casey and
Korbin Spencer, taking home the award for the first time.
Taevon Horton,
Logan Madden, Tyelin May, and
Kenyon Stone were the four from the junior class. Malcom Green,
David Lee,
Cheikh Ndiaye,
Christian Sweazie, and
Jacob Brown from the senior class made up the bulk of the honorees from the team.
Both teams advanced to the MSC Tournament Quarterfinals after wins in opening round games this week. UPIKE women's basketball will take on Lindsey Wilson College on Saturday, February 27
th in Bowling Green. Men's quarterfinal action features the Bears against the Georgetown Tigers on Sunday, February 28
th with tip-off set for 6PM eastern time.
