Box Score 2 Henderson, TN – UPIKE baseball moves to 4-13 after a tough weekend series that saw the Bears drop three games to Freed-Hardeman.
The Lions won both games on Friday by scores of 13-2 and 17-3 before completing the sweep with a 10-0 victory on Saturday.
The Bears totaled 10 hits in the series, led by
Tyler Maynard who knocked a two RBI double in game two.
Tyler Freas also recorded a double in game two, adding hit number 18 to his breakout 2021 season.
UPIKE got started quickly in the first frame of game two, crossing three runs – two on an RBI double off Maynards bat that scored
Noah Helton and
Jared Kirkman who reached on hit by pitch. Freas double in the next at bat scored Maynard as the Bears went up 3-0. Freed picked up in the first and second innings, combining for nine runs to lead 9-3 after two and would shut out the Bears the remainder of the contest.
A handful of Bears saw mound action in the second game with the loss going to
Nolan Fernandes who went just an inning allowing four runs on four hits.
Jordan Davy made an inning long appearance that featured three runs on a pair of hits.
Brady Schmidt went the longest and offered the most efficient performance, going three complete only giving up four runs.
In game three, UPIKE connected for three hits coming as doubles from
Jared Kirkman and Maynard while
Noah Helton connected for a single.
Jairemy Pulido got the call to start, tossing four and a third innings allowing four runs on six hits.
Braxton Ratliff offered a pair of innings, allowing three runs on three hits.
The Bears look to bounce back this week as they head to New Albany, IN to face off with (11) Indiana University Southeast on Tuesday, March 16
