Bowling Green, KY – UPIKE women's bowling have earned their third straight MSC Women's Bowling Championship after defeating (2) Martin Methodist in back-to-back games for the title. Overall the Bears played six sets of baker games, losing just once to Martin Methodist before trumping Campbellsville in the consolation bracket to move on to the Redhawks, who they would beat twice to claim the 2021 championship.
UPIKE was the top overall seed and began the tournament with a bye in the opening round before they would face Marian in round two. The Bears took the first game against Marian 175-137 before dropping the second but would then go on to win three straights to advance.
In the third round, UPIKE swept the Tigers 4-0 totaling 739 pins to Campbellsville's 676. In their fourth-round matchup the Bears faced rival Martin Methodist for the first time in the tournament in what would be an closely contested eight game battle. Through four games, the teams were deadlocked at 2-2 before drawing in game five to force a game six. UPIKE won game six 204-137 but would fall in the next two, falling to the consolation bracket.
The Bears defeated Campbellsville in the losers' bracket by a score of 4.5-1.5 after opening the series with a tie. The teams went 1-1 in the next two but Pikeville won three straight to advance to the tournament championship.
On Saturday, UPIKE took on Martin Methodist in a match that if won by the RedHawks, would make Martin Methodist 2021 MSC Champions. The Bears knocked down 962 pins winning 4.5 - .5 to force the if-necessary final match. UPIKE opened up the final match with three straight wins before Martin Methodist claimed a lone win in the fourth. The Bears won game five by 13 pins, totaling 1058 pins in the series for their best stretch of the tournament, earning the MSC Championship title.
UPIKE women's bowling had already earned an automatic bid to the Inagural Women's Bowling National Championship after capturing the MSC regular-season title. The Bears will head to Sterling Heights, MI for the NAIA National Invitational held March 25th through the 28th.
