Columbia, KY – UPIKE softball wrapped up the 2021 campaign on Tuesday evening after dropping a double header to (4) Lindsey Wilson by scores of 6-0 and 5-1. The Bears finished the season with an overall record of 13-29 (4-22 MSC).
Four-time MSC Pitcher of the Week Annabelle Ramirez pitched a complete game no-hitter, holding the Bears scoreless in game one. Senior
Megan Claypoole went five innings for UPIKE and gave up six runs (four earned) on four hits, striking out six.
The Bears threatened for the first time in the top of the third frame via
Erin Bolen who reached on a lead-off walk.
Katelyn Byrd clubbed a sacrifice bunt to advance Bolen to second, before a ground out by
Alysha Bolling put Bolen on third where she would be left on at the conclusion of the inning. Lindsey Wilson had a one run lead until the third where they hung three more, adding two more in the sixth
frame to secure the win.
UPIKE knocked a trio of hits in the second game, coming off the bats of
Lillie Kluesner,
Haley Osborne, and Bolling. Osborne put the Bears ahead 1-0 in the top of the second via an RBI double to left field that score Kluesner who led off the inning with a single. Bolling notched her lone hit of the contest in the sixth inning with a single to right field.
The Bears held the 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth when Lindsey Wilson connected for three hits, scoring four runs. The Blue Raiders put their final run on the board in the sixth inning to take the 5-1 victory.
Katlyn Mullins got the start and delivered three shutout innings, only allowing a pair of hits and striking out three.
Macy Jones picked up the loss after going an inning and a third, giving up the tying and go-ahead runs.
Mattea Ware closed out the game after entering in the fifth inning and finished with one and a third innings pitched with four hits and three runs.
