Bluefield, VA - The University of Pikeville Bears women's soccer team knocked off the Bluefield University Rams 1-0 Wednesday afternoon in their season-opener. Sophomore forward
Kylie Gollihue netted the lone tally in the contest as the Bears move to 1-0 on the season.
UPIKE outshot the Rams 16-4 in the game, with five of those shots coming on goal. The Bears will be back in action next Wednesday afternoon when they host Milligan University at Bob Amos Park in their 2021 home opener at 4:30 p.m.
Early Pressure
UPIKE came out of the gates firing against the Rams, as they had five shots just over 15 minutes into the contest. They outshot the Rams 8-4 in the opening half, with one shot being on goal.
First Career Goal
The Bears continued to pressure the Bluefield keeper early on in the second half, with two shots on goal coming from
Mya Holmes. In the 51st minute,
Kylie Gollihue sent an unassisted strike into the back of the net in what proved to be the game-winner for UPIKE. Pikeville had one more shot on goal throughout the remainder of the game as they held the Rams to just two shots on goal in the contest.

Elizabeth Lukens picked up the second shutout of her career Wednesday afternoon against the Rams, with the other also coming against Bluefield on September 2nd, 2019. Lukens picked up two saves in the win.
