Asbury, KY - The University of Pikeville women's soccer team dropped to 1-1 Saturday afternoon after a 7-1 defeat by Asbury University. Sophomore
Kylie Gollihue provided the lone goal for the Bears in the loss, her second goal of the season.
The Bears had seven shots in the game, with five shots on goal, but Eagles keeper Maliya Crump did a good job of turning away Bears opportunities. After the loss, UPIKE will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Midway University for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Eagles.
Early Opportunities
After falling behind 1-0 early in the contest,
Mya Holmes found herself with two good looks for the Bears within the first ten minutes of the game. However, Maliya Crump was up to the task for Asbury, making two saves to keep the score at 1-0. The Eagles went into the half up 4-0.
Kluesner to Gollihue
Lillie Kluesner had a shot on goal early in the second half that was saved, but sparked a great play later on for UPIKE. At midfield, she sent a beautiful pass over several defenders right onto the left foot of
Kylie Gollihue who sent it into the back of the net for the Bears to cut the lead to 5-1 in the 65th minute. As mentioned, this was Gollihue's second goal of the season and second goal of her career.
UPIKE would have one more shot on goal in the half as they fell 7-1 in the game.
