Prestonsburg, KY – The University of Pikeville women's golf team won the Alice Lloyd College Women's Fall Invitational with a team score of 635 (317, 318) to begin their 2021-22 season. This ties for the fourth best finish in program history over 36 holes with their showing at the ERAU Spring Invite during the 2018-19 season.
Graduate student
Boo Newsome led the way for the Bears, earning medalist honors after a two-day total of 142 (74, 68). This is the 13th victory of her career. Newsome set a pair of personal bests during the tournament. Her 68 gives her the second lowest round in program history behind Ellen Kehoe's 67 at the UPIKE Fall Invite in 2019-20. Her 36-hole total of 142 is second in program history behind Kehoe's 141 in 2019-20. Newsome made six birdies during the tournament with two on day one and four on day two to give her 111 in her career, which is the most in program history.
Freshman
Sophie Beverly finished third in her first collegiate tournament with a total of 158 (76, 82) while sophomore
Gabriel Blankenship finished in a tie for fifth at 164 (81, 83). Rounding out the scores for UPIKE was
Terrie Lawson in 9th place at 171 (86, 85), giving the Bears all four players in the top ten. Beverly made three birdies during the tournament while Blankenship and Lawson both made two. Beverly also found herself at one under par through her first nine collegiate holes yesterday afternoon.
Newsome, Beverly, and Blankenship were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Nelson Scott his 19th victory in his UPIKE career.
