Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville women's soccer team dropped their home opener at the Bob Amos Grass Field Saturday afternoon against the University of Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars 2-0. After a scoreless first half, the Cougars found a pair of goals in the second half during the 75th and 79th minutes.
Lillie Kluesner led UPIKE with two shots on goal in the contest, as the Bears were outshot 20-8.
After the loss, the Bears fall to 3-2 on the season. They will look to right the ship as they open up their Mid-South Conference campaign Tuesday afternoon at Campbellsville University.
Scoreless First Half
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes, with the Bears being outshot 6-2 and
Elizabeth Lukens making four saves during the half. UPIKE had one shot on goal in the half.
Cougars Break Through
Both teams came out firing in the second half, with five shots being taken within the first ten minutes of play. Lukens made some great saves to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard.
Unfortunately for the Bears, Chloe Lorenz found the back of the net on a header that just snuck in during the 75th minute. Amy McKendry wasn't far behind her with a strike in the 79th minute to make it 2-0. The Bears had a pair of shots after the goals with one on frame, but weren't able to find the net in the 2-0 loss.

As mentioned, the Bears will open up MSC play Tuesday afternoon in Campbellsville when they take on the Tigers at 5:30 p.m.
