Pikeville, KY – UPIKE football blew past the Warriors of Webber International on Saturday afternoon, tallying their second straight blowout win by a final score of 59-0. The Bears defense was impeccable in the win and complimented the success of the fast-tempo offense.
The win improves the Bears to 2-0 on the season under Coach Fipps while the Warriors drop to 0-3 on the campaign.
Balance was the story once again for the UPIKE offense who netted 204 yards on the ground and another 211 yards through the air. The Bears run game accounted for four touchdowns, adding two more passing TDs. Totaling 415 yards of offense, the Bears' production nearly doubled that of the Warriors who were stifled to just 264 yards of total offense.
Offensively UPIKE proved dynamic again in an effort which included six different Bears getting touches in the ground game led by
Alex Sanders. Despite exiting in the first half, Sanders rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown.
Adrian Medacco went for 79 yards and a touchdown as well, busting out a 42-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Ivan Vaughn and
Jayden Neace both found the endzone on the ground as well.
Redshirt freshman
Lee Kirkland polished his opening performance, delivering for 217 yards through the air. Kirkland targeted nine different receivers and it was
Alexander Shelton and
Arites Clark who led the receiving core with five snags each. Shelton finished with a season-best 76 yards while Clark had a pair of touchdown grabs.
Cameron Miller was a standout for the defense, dragging down seven solo tackles and a pair of assist. Miller was lockdown in the secondary, recording a breakup and leaving his side of the field a no fly zone for the Warrior passing game. Once again,
Jonathan Morton was a huge part of the defense as the linebacker recorded eight tackles. Morton also grabbed his first career interception after a solid tip at the line, running it all the way back the length of the field for a touchdown.
Cedric Thomas looked fundamental as ever as the cornerback made an incredible interception in the Warrior endzone and finished with two breakups and a trio of tackles.
Jacquez Russ got in on four tackles and added a interception as well.
All said, the Bears defense limited the Warriors to just six of 18 third down conversions and less than four yards per play.
The Bears got on the board first in the opening quarter after an eight play drive, covering 80 yards and resulting in an
Alex Sanders touchdown. UPIKE put up 14 more in the second quarter, first with a TD catch from Clark and again with 3:49 to go on a quick burst from
Ivan Vaughn. The Bears went to the locker room after an impressive goaline stop, where the defense forced a turnover on downs from a Webber team who threated late in the quarter.
The third quarter proved the best for the Bears, featuring touchdowns from Clark, Neace, and Morton as they pulled away to a 49-point lead.
After a breakaway run from Medacco early in the third, the Bears defense held steady before finally
Jakob Headley iced the cake with a 26-yard field goal with 8:00 to go.
Next up for the Bears will be a test on the road against No. 13 Georgetown who moved to 3-0 today after a huge win over Bluefield (VA). UPIKE is set to kickoff against the Tigers on Saturday, October 2
