Crestview Hills, KY - The University of Pikeville volleyball team lost to the Thomas More Saints Wednesday night on the road, 3-0. The Bears fell behind 2-0 before playing their best set in the third, but couldn't keep the match going.
Hunter Clewis led UPIKE with eight kills while
Leigh Johnson had eight digs and
Cheyenne Martinez dished out 19 assists. This loss drops the Bears to 1-16 on the season and 0-6 in the Mid-South Conference.
Set By Set
UPIKE struggled in the first two sets, creating large deficits early on they couldn't claw out of. This led to a pair of 25-10 losses to fall behind 2-0 in the match.
The third set saw the Bears behind 17-11 but as we have seen throughout the season, UPIKE wasn't out of it and showed moxie to fight back into the set. They ripped off a 7-2 run to get to within one point at 19-18. Fueling the run was four kills from four different Bears. Unfortunately for UPIKE, they would cut the lead to one another time at 21-20 but couldn't get over the hump to tie the set. They would ultimately run out of time and fall 25-20 and drop the match 3-0.Â
What's Up Next
The Bears will be right back in action on Saturday afternoon when they make up a game with Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee at 2:00 p.m.Â
