Campbellsville, KY – The University of Pikeville men's basketball team lost on the road Saturday afternoon to the Campbellsville University Tigers, 62-55.
UPIKE was led by
Maurice Dickson who tied his season-high with 17 points while
Taevon Horton added nine points.
Kenyon Duling led the team with eight rebounds while
Korbin Spencer led with three assists. The Bears fall to 14-6 after the loss and 7-5 in the Mid-South Conference.
How It Happened
Campbellsville exploded out to a 7-0 lead at the start of the game off the strength of a three-pointer and a pair of layups. The Tigers would take this start and continue to grow their lead throughout the half, never leading by less than five points over the first 20 minutes.
UPIKE struggled from the field in the first half, shooting 32% and turning it over 10 times. They would go into the break trailing 32-21.
The Bears cut the lead down to seven at 34-27 after a Duling layup with 16:20 remaining. Unfortunately for UPIKE, they struggled to get over the hump, as the Tigers extended their lead back to 14 with 10:43 to play.
However, that is when UPIKE made its move. They used a 16-5 run to shrink the lead to just three at 51-48 with 4:07 to play. Dickson had eight points during this run to get the Bears back into the game.
The Tigers would recover though and that is as close as UPIKE would get for the remainder of the contest. They trailed by four on a pair of occasions down the stretch but ultimately dropped the game 62-55.
What's Up Next
The Bears return home to the UPIKE Gym on Monday night for an 8:00 p.m. matchup with the visiting Freed-Hardeman Lions. In the team's lone meeting last season, UPIKE lost to the Lions 103-86 at home.
