Bears Battle for Fifth Straight Win Over Wildcats

Pikeville, KY – UPIKE women's basketball hung their fifth straight win Thursday afternoon with a 75-61 routing of Bethel University.

The win improves the Bears to 9-6 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

Sierra Feltner piloted the scoring attack for the Bears in the win, going 7-11 from the field and a perfect 2-2 from deep to finish with 18 points. Feltner also finished with two assists and three rebounds.

Bailey Frazier also hit a pair of threes, going 2-3 from deep and finishing with 14 points against the Wildcats. Frazier polished off her first double-double of the season with 12 rebounds, also going a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.

Alexis Reed capped off her sixth double digit scoring performance of the season with 16 points. Reed fired 5-10 from the field, hitting four shots from beyond the arc.

Most notably, the Bears shot a clean 65% clip from three as a team, hitting 45.5% of all shots. The Bears outrebounded the Wildcats 35-27.

UPIKE outscored the Wildcats in all but the second quarter, opening the contest with a 17-14 advantage over the first 10 minutes. A run that lasted into the second quarter tied the ballgame, and the Wildcats would fight back to take the lead twice more in the second.

The game was played pretty much within one possession as there was three lead changes in the third but it was UPIKE and a three point shot from Frazier that put the Bears in the lead headed into the fourth. The final quarter was controlled by the Bears, capitalizing at the free throw line and extending as much as a 16-point lead before sealing the deal.

UPIKE women's basketball against Freed-Hardeman, originally scheduled for Saturday, January 8th has been been postponed. Currently, the Bears are set to take on the Phoenix next Thursday, January 13th on the road in Lebanon, TN.
