Oliver Claims Second-Straight Tournament Win; Bears Finish Runner-Up at MSC Cincinnati Classic

Fairfield, Ohio – UPIKE men's bowling finished runner-up in the MSC Cincinnati Collegiate Classic over the weekend, finishing 11 pins shy of tournament champion UT-Southern. Bryce Oliver collected all-tournament honors in his second straight tournament win, bowling a perfect 300 in the final game.

The tournament featured 18 teams bowling in nine team games over the course of two days. The Bears varsity unit totaled 9632 pins which topped third-place Tennessee Wesleyan by 455 pins. The performance moves the Bears into a two-way tie with UT-Southern for first in the MSC standings.

UPIKE totaled 5313 on Saturday, heading into the final four games with a 125-pin lead over second place Tennessee Southern. The Bears topped 1000 pins in four of the five games, scoring a 1124 in game two which was the highest single game score of any team on day one. Competition picked up on Sunday as the Bears continue to battle with four straight games over 1000 pins. The Firehawks claimed the win after besting the Bears in three of four games on day two.

The JV tournament featured 10 teams and was won by UT-Southern's JV1 with an 8756-pin total. UPIKE's JV1 squad finished runner-up after knocking down 8588 pins while JV2 finished fifth with 7519.

Oliver was the Bears' lone finisher in the top-10 as he claimed his second-straight title. The Ohioan totaled 2184 pins with an average of 242.7. Oliver's score was 37 pins higher than runner-up Hayden Stippich of UT-Southern. Oliver bowled a 200 or better in eight of nine games before recording the second perfect 300 of his career in the final game.

Benjamin Bailey finished inside the top-20 with a 1826 pin total to land at 16th. Bailey knocked down his best score of 258 in game eight, and finished with an average of 202.9. Finishing 19th was JV1's Paul Sacks with a score of 1811 and an average of 201.2.

Men's bowling returns to the lanes on Saturday, November 5th for the Bowlero Southern Collegiate tournament in Marietta, Georgia.
