Phoenix Take Down Bears Behind Second Half Surge

Pikeville, Ky. – Women's soccer fell to (15) Cumberland 4-0 Monday afternoon, dropping their fifth consecutive match.

The loss drops the Bears to 3-9-1 on the season, still winless in MSC play with a mark of 0-5.

UPIKE managed a single shot in the contest, by way of Brianna Fortman. Millicent Conod and Elizabeth Lukens shared time in goal, with Conod taking over for the majority of the second half. Lukens wrapped up with 12 saves, her third match this season with 10 or more saves. Conod managed eight saves, her second highest total of the season.

The Bears' defense was stellar through the first 45 minutes, giving up just one goal at the 12:56 mark. Lukens warded off four consecutive shots on frame in the following 10-minute span. The Bears fired their lone shot in the 10' which was saved by Cumberland keeper Sabrina Graziano.

Cumberland slipped another goal through to take a 2-0 lead with just over 31 minutes to play in the second half, increasing the offensive pressure on the Bears.

The Phoenix netted their final two goals in the last 11 minutes of play to secure the 4-0 win.

UPIKE women's soccer returns to action at Bob Amos Field on Sunday, October 9th for a 10:00 am matchup with (6) Tennessee Southern.
