Bears Offense Stifled In Loss To Firehawks

Pikeville, Ky. - The University of Pikeville Bears returned to action today and were defeated by the University of Tennessee-Southern Firehawks 8-0 at Bob Amos.

The match opened up with a great chance by the Bears but the pass to Carley Groh could not connect. UT-Southern countered with three shots that were saved by goalkeeper Elizabeth Lukens, but the Firehawks broke through shortly after. A goal in the 16' gave the Firehawks an early 1-0 lead. The Firehawks continued to pour on the shots and the goals with tallies in the 28' and 30' to go up 3-0. UT-Southern added another before the half and UPIKE trailed 4-0 at the beak. The Bears had zero shot attempts in the first half.

Millicent Conod started in net for the second half and was peppered with shots early. UT-Southern added two more scores in the first six minutes of the second half, and another two in the 56' and 60' to go up 8-0.

Despite trailing, UPIKE had a few good looks late in the game. Lauren Johnson had a shot get blocked in the 61' and Carley Groh's shot in the 80' went high. Groh added another shot that went high in the 90'. The Bears finished the game with four shot attempts, none of which were on net.

UPIKE's record now drops to 3-10-1 (0-6 MSC) following today's loss. The Bears will pick it back up against the Campbellsville Tigers Wednesday evening at Bob Amos.
