Smyrna, Tenn. – Men's bowling secured the top spot in the Mid-South Conference over the weekend with a dominating victory at the Brandon Burns Memorial.
The Bears totaled 1268 throughout six team games and 16 baker games. UPIKE topped UT-Southern, who entered the tournament tied for first, by 659 pins.
In the 11-team JV competition, the Bears' JV1 squad finished runner-up with 9014 pins. The JV2 team totaled 8041 pins to finish 5
th.
Individually,
Wesley Yazell completed a breakout performance to lead the Bears. Yazell earned all-tournament with his fourth-place performance which is his top career finish. The sophomore dropped 1373 pins, averaging 228.8 per game with his top game coming in at 257.
Matteo Cittadino joined Yazell as an all-tournament winner, finishing fifth with 1371 pins. Cittadino has now finished top-five in back-to-back performances.
Two more Bears broke into the top-10 –
Ryan Taylor totaled 1352 pins to finish seventh while Eli Mayberry nabbed 10
th with 1328. Taylor's performance is his best since last season's Las Vegas Shootout, and Mayberry tabs his first career top-10 finish.
Reigning MSC Men's Bowler of the Week
Bryce Oliver finished just outside the top-10, dropping 1312 pins to finish 11
th. Oliver averaged 218.7 and had an impressive game four where he totaled 275.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, November 26
th as they head to Louisville, Ky. for the All-NAIA Tier 1 event.
