Parham Scores 33 In Bears' Third Straight Win

Kingsport, Tenn. - The University of Pikeville Bears improved their 2022-23 record to 5-2 after an 86-76 win over Trinity International University Friday night. 

The Bears connected on their first three attempts from beyond the arc, with Korbin Spencer scoring the first points of the game then Teddy Parham Jr. hitting back-to-back threes. The score was neck-and-neck midway through the first, with the teams tied at 21-21 with 8:26 left in the half. After lay-ups from Mark Vance Jr. and Devin Collins, Elijah Herron hit a three to go up seven. Shortly after, Korbin Spencer made a free throw and then Teddy Parham hit a jumper to go up 31-22. TIU went on a 9-4 run to close out the first half and UPIKE led 35-31 at the half. Parham and Spencer led the Bears in scoring with 11 and 10 first-half points, respectively. As a team, the Bears shot 43% from the field and had eight steals. 

Parham continued his stellar play in the second half, scoring four of the Bears' first five points. Shortly after, the Bears held a 46-41 lead. UPIKE widened their lead to nine at the free throw line with 13 minutes left in the game. Later on, the Trojans went on a run and tied the game at 58-58 with six minutes left. UPIKE responded with an 8-0 run, with Korbin Spencer scoring six of those eight points. Leading 66-58, the Bears' free throw shooters went to work. Fourteen of the Bears' final 20 points came from the free throw line and the Bears won 86-76. Parham and Spencer were a combined 17-20 from the free throw line in the second-half and were instrumental down the stretch. Jacob Brown grabbed eight second-half rebounds and had seven points. 

Teddy Parham Jr. had a season-high 33 points and had also had four steals. Parham was 9-17 from the field, 4-9 from three and 11-14 from the free throw line. Korbin Spencer was second in scoring with 23 points. Spencer, along with Parham and Elijah Herron, also had four assists. Jacob Brown grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and had three steals. 

UPIKE has now won three in a row and are back in action tomorrow night when they take on Washington Adventist University at 7:45.
