Pikeville, Ky. – Men's basketball got back to their winning ways Saturday evening with a 79-67 rout of Wilberforce in the UPIKE Gym.
The win puts the Bears at .500 on the season at 6-6 (3-4 MSC). With the victory, the Bears are now 3-1 at home.
Teddy Parham Jr. was at the helm of the scoring attack for the Bears once again, dropping 27 points. Parham Jr. shot 15-16 from the free throw line, marking the most in a game since KJ Manigault made 16 against Life University in January of 2015.
Korbin Spencer finished with 15 points, shooting 41% from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.
Jacob Brown delivered an 11-point performance, hitting five of six shots.
Back-to-back three pointers in the early going saw Wilberforce take a 10-5 lead with 15:32 left to play in the first half. Spencer and the Bears answered with a three-and-a-half-minute stretch where they hit 4-5 shots, reclaiming the lead. Parham Jr. took control of the offense, scoring nine points in less than five minutes which would give the Bears a 27-20 lead with 7:11 on the clock.
With under 30 seconds to play in the first, the Bears had built a 17-point lead, dominating the first half rebound battle 20-12.
The Bulldogs challenged for a stretch in the middle of the second period, outscoring the Bears 17-12 in the span of eight minutes. The comeback effort was stifled by a corner three from
Devin Collins and the Bears stayed in control, taking their largest lead of the game (18 points) at the 3:48 mark on a dunk from Brown.
Bears men's basketball returns to Pikeville on Thursday, December 15 for a 7:30 PM matchup with Campbellsville. The Bears will host the Tigers at Appalachian Wireless Arena.
