Men's Basketball Falls At Home To Cumberland

Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville men's basketball team fell to the Cumberland University Phoenix on Saturday afternoon in the UPIKE Gym, 78-59. Three players scored in double-digits for the Bears in the game, with Jacob Brown netting a team-high 12 points on 6-8 shooting. Korbin Spencer and Kevin Bishop II both scored 10 points. Maurice Dickson tied a season-high with eight rebounds while Spencer led the team with five assists. UPIKE returns to action against Cumberland on Monday evening on the road.

How It Happened
The teams were all square at 10-10 before Cumberland snatched a nine-point lead after two Tavon King three pointers led the way in a 9-0 run to make it 19-10. The Bears answered right back with an 11-4 run to cut the lead to just two at 23-21 with under nine minutes to play in the first half. Bishop II scored six points during the flurry. The Phoenix re-gained their momentum though heading into the half. They used a 14-5 rally to go up 37-26 at halftime.

In the second half, UPIKE cut the lead down to five early on at 40-35 after Spencer (5) and Brown (4) combined for nine points in the 9-3 push. Unfortunately for the Bears, this was as close as they would get as Cumberland pushed their lead back to double-digits for good with 9:48 remaining. They would come away with the 78-59 victory.

What's Up Next
The Bears hit the road for the final week of the season, starting with a rematch vs. Cumberland on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. ET in Lebanon, Tennessee.

They then travel to Freed-Hardeman University for a 9:00 p.m. ET game on Thursday night before finishing the regular season against Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee at 5:00 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
